Trieste, October 2025 – From 11 October 2025,with the opening at 5pm or 7pm, the Tivarnella Art Consulting gallery presents the solo exhibition American Pantheon by Houben Tcherkelov (Alias Houben R. T.), curated by Enea Chersicola. The New York artist, who represented Bulgaria at the 2011 Venice Biennale and whose works have enjoyed growing international success, with recent exhibitions in China and the United States, is coming to Trieste. The opportunity for this bridge between New York and Trieste is the result of the work that Tivarnella Art Consulting has been carrying out in the American metropolis for several years. A network of artists, collectors and companies has been created around the Trieste-based consultancy firm. In addition to presenting numerous Italian artists, particularly from Friuli Venezia Giulia, Tivarnella Art is committed to promoting American artists in Trieste in order to create an ongoing international dialogue between artists and enthusiasts. Houben R. T.'s work is close to pop art, but as he himself suggests, unlike Pop Art, which depicts manufactured objects, in this case it is money - a symbolic instrument of value - that is represented, which, paradoxically, is what New York produces. From his studio in Times Square, the author has a privileged view of this process and what interests him is how money borrows images from a country's culture, transforming them into symbols linked to the instrument of exchange. “The only global means of communication is money, ” suggests Tcherkelov himself. In his hands, the symbol is reduced to the status of a work of art and offered to the public, imbued with a new network of meanings that touches the aesthetics of anyone who uses money as a tool. The exhibition will be accompanied by a rich programme of side events: presentations, conferences in schools and meetings with the author dedicated to both young people and the general public, which will take place throughout the duration of the exhibition. The exhibition catalogue with an introduction by Francesco De Filippo will also be presented. The exhibition, also supported by Studio Psacaropulo and VenJulia Edilizia, offers the public a unique opportunity to reflect on the relationship between image, power and memory, in a dialogue that blends pop aesthetics, classical iconographic tradition and political reflection.
