The FESA Cup - European Cross-Country Skiing Cup will be held in Slingia, on the first weekend of December from 6 to 8 December. Swiss-Ski has assigned the technical organisation of the first FESA Cup races of the season (the event of the European Ski Federation) to the Sesvenna Ski Club, specifically a Sprint in free technique, an Interval start in classic and a Mass start in skating on the highly appreciated slopes of the South Tyrolean resort. Ensuring a new successful event, after the Junior&U23 World Championships in 2008,competitions of the European Cup, Italian Championships and Italian Cup, is the Watles ski area where the competitions will take place, and above all the Upper Vinschgau Tourism Association of Mals, which supports the staging. Slingia is a small mountain village at an altitude of 1726 metres, which can be reached by ascending from Malles via Burgusio. It is a condensation of green, crisp air, nature, in short it is a living postcard. Splendid peaks, particularly those of the Sesvenna Group and the Ötztaler Alps, with the Ortler as the dominant feature. In winter, the cross-country ski centre offers cross-country skiers the opportunity to ski at high altitudes on well-groomed pistes, while in summer, the rollerski track is inviting for training. The December races in Slingia play a very special role this year. They will certainly serve for the top athletes who are not summoned for the World Cup in Ruka in order to gain points for the following races, but above all for the Juniors and Under-23s who will be able to showcase themselves in view of the World Championships reserved for them, which will be held in February in Schilpario, in the Bergamo area. Italy is considered the host nation and so will have a free contingent, as it will be for Switzerland, and so crowded races are expected, some 400 athletes are expected, but above all spectacular and hard-fought on the first snow of the season. In Slingia, Swiss-Ski, the ASC Sesvenna and the Alta Val Venosta Tourism Association are working hard to present themselves to the Nordic skiing world in great style.
