CHRONOS International Contemporary Art Exhibition Press Release Set within the historic Church of Santa Maria di Portosalvo, a rare example of sixteenth-century Neapolitan religious architecture enriched by refined Rococo ornamentation, CHRONOS unfolds as an international contemporary art exhibition exploring the many dimensions of time. Bringing together artists from diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds, the exhibition examines time as memory, transformation, duration, anticipation, and possibility. Through a constellation of artistic practices and perspectives, CHRONOS creates a dialogue between contemporary creativity and the profound historical resonance of its setting. The exhibition features 43 national and international artists, presented through both physical installations and video presentations. Their works engage with time as a living and mutable substance—one that leaves traces, erodes and renews, suspends perception and reactivates memory. Time emerges not as a fixed measure, but as an experiential dimension through which personal and collective narratives are continuously shaped. The encounter between contemporary artworks and the church’s historical architecture intensifies the reflection on permanence and change, remembrance and presence. The exhibition space becomes a site of passage and contemplation, where past and present intersect in a dynamic exchange. Structured as a journey through visual and conceptual fragments, CHRONOS brings together painting, photography, sculpture, and digital art in a network of relationships and correspondences. Each work acts as a threshold between temporalities, inviting viewers to consider how contemporary experience is informed by memory, shaped by the present, and projected toward the future. Rather than proposing a single interpretation, CHRONOS opens a space for encounter, reflection, and participation. Visitors are encouraged to linger, observe, and engage actively with the works, allowing multiple meanings and associations to emerge. In this context, time becomes both an emotional and intellectual landscape—a field upon which gestures, images, and visions are inscribed. Curated by Maria Di Stasio and organized by the Athenae Artis Cultural Association, the exhibition offers a platform for dialogue across artistic languages and generations, highlighting the enduring capacity of art to question, preserve, and transform our understanding of time. The exhibition’s vernissage, taking place on 14 June 2026,is conceived as a moment of encounter, listening, and exchange. Art critic and art historian Mariangela Bognolo will guide visitors through the exhibition, engaging in direct dialogue with the artists and the diverse expressive approaches presented in the show. More than an opening event, the vernissage becomes a shared experience—an opportunity to generate reflection, foster connections, and open new horizons of interpretation.
