On the eve of the 47th Cento Children's Literature Award FESTIVAL, which will enliven the city until May 9th, we announce some very important news: Antonio Faeti, a key figure in the development of children's literature in Italy, will receive the SPECIAL RECOGNITION of the Cento Children's Literature Award, as part of the 47th edition of the first and longest-running children's literature award in Italy, the only one to have had Gianni Rodari as President of the Jury in the first edition in 1978.Each year, the Award is given to an individual and/or organization that has distinguished itself in promoting children's literature in Italy and beyond. Last year, it was awarded to Elisabetta Dami, mother of Geronimo Stilton, author of books translated into 52 languages and selling over 190 million copies worldwide. In February of this year, the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cento, the sole sponsor of the PLR, unanimously voted to award this recognition to Bolognese professor Antonio Faeti. The organizers' motivation: "For his fundamental contribution to the birth and development of children's literature. A rigorous and original scholar, a brilliant and refined intellectual, a tireless and innovative cultural promoter, he was able to restore dignity to a field too long considered marginal, illustrating its educational and social depth. A teacher, illustrator, writer, and university professor, we owe him the creation of the first university chair in the History of Children's Literature. His works and his teaching have educated generations of scholars and readers, decisively contributing to the spread of a new awareness of children's literature. For having left an indelible mark on Italian literary culture. " Raffaella Cavicchi, President of the Cassa di Risparmio di Cento Foundation, adds: "It is a great honor for us to present this recognition to Professor Faeti. Our award was founded in 1978 by Gianni Rodari, who, together with Amleto Bassi, Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ferrara, had the innovative idea of establishing a prize dedicated to children's books, at a time when this topic was not yet receiving the attention it deserved. Today, fortunately, there are numerous prizes dedicated to children's literature: an achievement rooted in the past, thanks also to Professor Faeti, who, with the creation of the first Chair of Children's Literature, laid a solid and lasting foundation for a constantly growing cultural movement, driven by writers, illustrators, teachers, and young readers. " Professor Antonio Faeti will be present to accept the award on Friday, May 8th, at 6: 30 pm at the CREDEM Representation Hall, Corso Guercino 32 in Cento (FE). This will be followed by a public meeting entitled "IN THE WORLD OF ANTONIO FAETI: Works, Visions, and New Pages, " with Sabrina FAVA, Professor of Children's Literature at the Catholic University of Milan, and Tiziana ROVERSI, editor, illustration and children's literature expert, and a student of Professor Faeti. Together, we will retrace the key stages of his professional career, including books, essays, and illustrations by the professor, a friend of Calvino, Fellini, Einaudi, Ginzburg, Rodari, and Umberto Eco.
