Com Under the patronage of the Municipality of Gualtieri and *I Borghi più belli d'Italia* (The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy) From September 12 to October 4,2026,the Sala Falegnami at Palazzo Bentivoglio in Gualtieri hosts the exhibition "Expanding Space" (*Spazio in espansione*), dedicated to Memo Fornasari (Mantua, 1910 – Verona, 1982). A multifaceted and radical figure of 20th-century Italy, Fornasari was a "total artist" capable of traversing various languages, techniques, and disciplines with a freedom that appears strikingly contemporary today. Curated by Carlo Micheli, the exhibition serves as a vital tribute to an artist who reinvented the relationship between art, technology, and industry, anticipating many themes of postmodern inquiry. A painter, set designer, director, designer, and inventor, Fornasari embodied a vision of art as a realm of absolute experimentation, where every gesture represents an opening and every form acts as a question. Having entered the Futurist milieu at a very young age—invited by Marinetti to the first Rome Triennale—Fornasari traversed the century, absorbing its artistic currents without ever passively conforming to them. His *Galassie* (Galaxies)—etched, layered surfaces where light transforms into matter—represent one of Italy’s earliest Spatialist experiments. They engage in an ideal dialogue with the explorations of Fontana, Dova, and Crippa, positioning Fornasari among the pioneers of a cosmic vision of art. At the pinnacle of his artistic inquiry lie the *Radiografie cromatiche* (Chromatic Radiographs): analytical immersions into color, conceived as a living organism. These works feature tangled marks, shifting transparencies, and tonal vibrations that are not merely stylistic exercises, but attempts to harness light and convey its complexity through a language bordering on the scientific. Upon visiting one of his exhibitions, Virgilio Guidi wrote: “You have incorporated so many of the century’s major events into your work, mastering them with wisdom. ” This assessment underscores Fornasari’s ability to navigate the twentieth century with a restless clarity, constantly reinventing his visual vocabulary. Fornasari dissolved the boundaries between art and technology, aesthetics and function, intuition and method. The exhibition in Gualtieri presents a selection of works from public and private collections, tracing the core themes of his output. The exhibition path reveals the complexity of an artist who has yet to be fully discovered—one who today merits a critical re-examination that would firmly establish his place in art history.
