The exhibition “Calogero Condello. Three-dimensional thinking. Classicism and the future”. The exhibition “Calogero Condello. Three-dimensional thinking. Classicity and the future”, which will be presented by Marianna Accerboni. On display is a fascinating sequence of three-dimensional installations created by the Friulian artist in recent years. (until May 5th/ opening hours: Thursday and Friday 4pm-7pm, Saturday, Sunday and holidays 10am-7pm, free entry/ info and press office: +39 335 6750946). The speculative capacity typical of Mediterranean culture - writes Marianna Accerboni - is reflected in the work of Calogero Condello, who knows how to summarize eurythmy, measure and passion in his works, enclosed and suspended in an art of conceptual inspiration, in which the canons recur of classical and neoclassical beauty alongside other quality aesthetic choices, expressed along the lines of contemporaneity both in terms of form and in terms of their meaning. Reflections that come from an artistic and professional preparation that began at the artistic high school of Agrigento and was then refined at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence in the Sculpture section, where Condello studied multiple disciplines in depth, implementing and refining his natural talent towards three-dimensionality, but also towards two-dimensional expressions, which often frame and summarize the sculptural works. It should also be noted that these sculptures do not represent unique voices, to be considered individually, but rather original choral expressions in which the author, in the search for an ideal two-way relationship of humanistic trace with "the other", expresses his reflections on multiple aspects of our daily life, focusing in particular the focus of its symbolic narrative on war and pollution, problems that negatively affect our existence. Great drama, which rises to the pitch of a Greek tragedy, is suggested precisely by the ecological theme, represented by the artist - who has exhibited in prestigious institutional venues in Italy and abroad - in the installation which simulates an unhealthy and metaphorical banquet (Man and mother nature) of 2021 while the theme of war scratches our soul with the terracotta installation entitled "Dilaniata" created between 1995 and 2003.With absolute mastery of the third dimension and space, Condello expresses, through a symbolic art in which the echoes of the golden measure resonate, his own interpretation of contemporary reality and some of its most pressing problems, also identified through the crudest echoes. Bringing them back to a human scale, which represents the fulcrum and means of his original reflection and of his installations. From a technical point of view, his works are created using the plaster cast of a human model in flesh and blood, then further reworked and modified through a very personal research method, aimed at modulating a language in which the relationship between interiority and exteriority sometimes makes use of light (as happened at the Roman Theater of Trieste in 2019 and in Aquileia in 2020), which gives a sense of fragile beauty to the transparency of the fibreglass, often enriched by pigments and chosen perhaps not by chance but instinctively also to remember the transience of earthly things. Sometimes, however, the sculptures are forged in bronze with a dark patina which slightly accentuates the "drama", that is, according to Greek etymology, the scenic action interpreted by ideal figures who almost become neoclassical heroes. In fact, the three sculptures that accompany and remind the user of the exhibition throughout its duration are made of bronze, placed in three key spaces in the center of Trieste, as well as some works present in the exhibition venue: Warehouse 26 of the old port of Trieste which, with its austere memory of the past and its reuse in the present, it perfectly interprets the temporal conceptuality expressed by the Sicilian sculptor, suspended between an apparently ideal past, a current situation full of leaden clouds and a future that we hope is better, thanks also to the symbolic denunciations of artists like Condello, an author with elegant and essential poetics, courageous, often inspired and pervaded by an instinct and a soberly and subtly scenic sensitivity. To interpret with emotion - concludes Accerboni - the theater of life in the perspective of rebirth and hope.
