FIDIA Press release LOOKS ON ROME personal exhibition by Sergio Ceccotti Catalog text by Gabriele Simongini The Sguardi su Roma exhibition presents to the public a selection of works by Sergio Ceccotti dedicated to the "eternal city", created over the last twenty years. Engaging and enigmatic, the artist's canvases hide a small mystery to be solved that lies behind the presence of a hand or people depicted from behind or simple objects placed on the table, as if something were to happen at any moment. Gabriele Simongini writes: “A Rome perpetually wrapped in the adventures of a light that is sweet and plastic at the same time, crossed by daily enigmas and thrillers that imbue every scene with a sense of anticipation, as if something indefinable is always on the verge of happening. For his painting we could speak of a metaphysical everyday life capable of creating an osmosis between the legacy of the Pictor Classicus and Hopper's minimal pictorial existentialism, on the one hand, and on the other the noir cinema of the 1950s or genres considered minor, such as the photo novel, the comic strips (Diabolik) and the drawings of the illustrator of the “Settimana Enigmistica”, Maria Ghezzi. And then you cannot understand this cultured, elegant and secluded painter, in love with the mysteries that hide in the visible, if you do not grasp his refined irony which distances itself from any pompous rhetoric and the risk of complacency".
