For the fashion world, the 1980s and 1990s were one such moment: a prolonged creative laboratory where Milan, Paris, and New York exchanged languages, talents, and insights; where "Made in Italy" definitively transcended national borders; and where the fashion model assumed a public profile of unprecedented magnitude. Cindy Crawford, Iman, Tyra Banks, Elle Macpherson, Micaela Bercu, Susie Bick, and Pia Klover were no longer merely the faces of a garment or an advertising campaign; they were recognizable personalities capable of embodying an entire concept of beauty and transforming a photograph into an image that defined a generation.
