From 18 to 20 September 2026,the city of Nicosia hosts the 10th Sicily International Madonnari Art Contest, one of Italy’s leading events dedicated to sacred street art. Organized by the Madonnari Association of Sicily, with the support of local institutions, the contest takes place during the celebrations of Mary Most Holy of the Aid, turning Via Fratelli Testa into a vibrant path of light, color, and spirituality. This year’s theme — “With Mary, Weavers of Hope in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” — invites artists to reflect on the human role in a world shaped by algorithms and advanced technologies. Mary becomes a symbolic guide, reminding us that hope, care, and creativity remain deeply human threads that no machine can replace. Artists from across Italy and around the world will participate, confirming the event’s international reach and its ability to attract talents who express spirituality and contemporary vision through ephemeral art. As tradition continues, Piazza Garibaldi will host a workshop for children, offering them a chance to discover the art of the madonnari and explore creativity as a response to the challenges of our time.
